Bruce's puppyhood was a life of neglect. He was kept outdoors in a wire dog crate 24 hours a day. His paws and lower legs had sores and were stained the color of his feces. Bruce was emaciated and lethargic at the time he was rescued.

While in foster care, Bruce has gained weight and energy. His foster mom refers to Bruce as "The happiest dog in the world!" He is so enthusiastic about everything and has never met a stranger. Bruce loves to run. Repeat: Loves to run! It's like he is making up for lost time. For this reason, a securely fenced yard (physical fence) is essential for him.

Bruce's resilience is proof of the solid dog he is at his core. Not only has he rebounded from the past, he seems to exude pure joy.

Bruce knows how to walk politely on a leash, has learned basic commands, rides nicely in the car, is surprisingly comfortable being crated, and is house-trained.  

With help of the dogs and cats in his foster home, Bruce has been learning how to have good manners around other animals. Even though he is a year old Bruce behaves much like a six-month-old puppy. He might be too energetic for a home with young children or dogs less than 20 lbs. Bruce is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations.
