Meet Honey!

This little girl entered into the rescue program on Easter Sunday, and she is as sweet as her name suggests. She had been brought into the local animal shelter less than a day before, very underweight having recently been hit by a car. She suffered extensive injuries, including a badly dislocated rear leg, crushed pelvis, and significant road rash over her body. She was taken into her foster family's home so she could receive the care and quiet she needed, and remained there when nobody came forward to claim her. Despite all of this, her loving sweet personality was (and is!) the first thing anybody noticed! In spite of being in pain, she was kind, loving and has from that day on seemed truly grateful for the love, attention, veterinary care, and time to recover she has been given.  Her pelvis has now healed, and she has undergone 6 weeks of physical therapy to strengthen her damaged leg. She underwent a surgery, and as a result her right rear leg is about 1" shorter than the other, so she has this cute little hitch in her giddy-up that is part of her forever, though does not cause her pain or discomfort.

Honey is approximately 1 year old. She weights just over 30 lbs. and while she may continue to fill out a bit, we believe she is no longer actively growing.  She has a really cool partially blue eye, and a thick undercoat below her sleek overcoat which makes her foster family believe she may have some husky in her. Her toes are super long and webbed, but she has not yet developed a love for the water.

Honey is an enthusiastic, energetic puppy! She plays hard and sleeps hard, and requires plenty of chew toys to keep her busy (no rawhide, please). She is learning to walk without pulling on a leash, but has anxiety when other dogs come into view and at times can become highly vocal when this happens. Continued training will be needed to help her learn manners and feel more comfortable in the presence of unknown dogs. That said, unknown dogs do not remain that way for long when she is allowed to meet them. After an appropriate introduction, she is respectful, playful and comfortable, and will remember that dog in the future.

Honey would do best to have at least one other canine sibling, preferably one that will enjoy playing with an exuberant puppy. There is a cat in her foster home, and she LOVES the cat - the two of them tumble around the house every morning until the cat has had enough and lets her know.

Honey does well with children, and would do well in a family that has children at least 10 years of age.

She does show signs of separation anxiety, and anxiety in general. When her human companions leave the house, this is well managed with the company of her canine foster siblings, having plenty of chew treats available to her, and with daily medication. She does not tolerate crating. This is likely due to the insecure puppyhood experience and will likely not be a life-long needed support.

This little girl has spunk, grit, and a heart that is loving, sweet, kind and gentle. She is playful, very eager to please and very, very smart. She often sleeps in positions that would make you believe that she has no bones (like a Slinky!), and does the most epic stretches in the morning when she wakes up. The noise her little flappy ears make when she shakes her head clear of sleep is undeniably one of her foster family's favorite sounds in the morning.

Honey is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, heart worm and flea and tick prevention, and microchipped. Please review CARE's Adoption Policy before completing an Application.
