Maddy is approximately 3 years old and around 62 pounds. She is small for a German Shepard and may be a mixed breed. Her personality and disposition are much calmer than most German Shepards. She is a very sweet and loving dog. She always wants to be by your side whether you are lounging in your chair or doing something fun. She gets along very well with the two other dogs in her foster home and is very affectionate toward them. Maddy would really do best in a home with another established dog so that she can follow their lead. She also gets along well with two cats in her foster home.

Maddy is house-trained and currently uses a doggie door to go to a large fenced in backyard. It was a challenge to keep Maddy separated from the other dogs after she was spayed. She demonstrated her problem solving skills on a few occasions by escaping from a kennel and a pen because she was not a fan of being isolated. However, she has made no effort to get out of the house or the fence; she just wants to be with humans and other dogs. Maddy knows how to sit, shake, and lay down. She rarely barks and is mostly very quiet. Her leash behavior continues to improve. She does like to pull some on lead but with frequent walks she has gotten much better.

Maddy had a rough start in life. When she came to Chatham Animal Rescue and Education she was underweight and looked as if she had more than one litter of puppies. Maddy loves both her foster parents but she is very cautious around men. Once she learns to trust she becomes very loving but that takes some time. She is not very confident around strangers and becomes timid and shy. As her socialization increases, she becomes more trusting and confident.

Maddy is looking for her forever home. She needs a home in which any children are over 6 years old and one in which her humans are not gone for long periods of time. If you think she would be a wonderful addition to your home and your are able to devote a lot of time to her, complete and application. She is currently in Chatham County, North Carolina, and has to be adopted out in the local region.
